Badenweiler and District
Markgräfler cosiness and a rural idyll at its most unspoilt.
An afternoon excursion along the deciduous woodland and tree lined meadows with views of the gentle vineyards of the Markgräflerland region brings before the eyes that which experts always justifiably describe as being the ‘Tuscany of southern Germany’.
On reaching Lipburg-Sehringen, passing the grave of Rene Schickele on your way, in Lipburg you will find the ‘Schwanen’ country inn, which has an authentically pleasant atmosphere and also has a romantic flower garden in its courtyard. You can also visit the ‘Zum grünen Baum’ inn in Sehringen. They are the ideal hosts for a quick snack, Baden specialities, Markgräfler wine and home made cakes and biscuits.
You can find the village of Schweighof easily from Badenweiler via the Schweighoferstrasse. At the very start of the village you can find the Guggmühle, which is the sole remaining saw mill of 5 such businesses which were previously located in the village. You can find the remnants of a further mill on leaving the village, where the Günther trout farm now ensures that a Black Forest speciality can always be offered fresh to all visitors and gourmets.
The ‘Restaurant Café Neumatt’ is recommended for a stop-off, as well as the cosy ‘Kellerstüble’ wine tavern and the ‘Zur Sonne’ country inn – all of which offer a family friendly atmosphere and typical dishes from the Baden cuisine.
